Two improvement projects along North 9th Street are nearing completion after almost a year of detours, closures and disruption for residents and businesses. One segment reopens Wednesday, while the final three-block section is expected to reopen in mid-October.

North 9th Street between Oak Avenue and Candlewood Drive will close fully to traffic beginning Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, 2026, while crews complete the final stage of the 2A reconstruction project.

Cañon City will host a public open house on Sept. 23, 2026, to discuss the 3rd Street Connector, a planned pedestrian corridor linking the Riverwalk Trail with Main Street. The project includes a sidewalk, crosswalks, landscaping and wayfinding signs, with construction currently anticipated for winter or spring 2028 if railroad-crossing reviews proceed as planned.
